Buying beef · Gitaway Farm

Buying beef from a farm? Start with these questions.

A useful first conversation covers availability, price, packaging, and pickup.

Start with what is available

Before planning a freezer full of beef, ask the farm what it is offering now and what may be available later. Individual cuts, mixed boxes, and larger beef orders are different purchases. Get the offer and timing confirmed before making plans.

Get the complete price explained

Ask exactly what the quoted price includes, how the order is measured, whether processing is included, and whether a deposit is required. If different weights are discussed, ask which one determines your bill. A clear written estimate is more useful than comparing two price-per-pound figures without that context.

Match the order to your household

Tell the farm what you cook most often, how many people you feed, and what freezer space you have available. Ask for an expected package count or order size before committing. The right purchase is one you can store and enjoy.

Confirm the handoff

Agree on pickup arrangements, packaging, payment, and what happens if the timing changes. Keep those details together so there are no surprises when your order is ready.
